Lenore and Bradley from Greystanes, NSW were given the golden ticket opportunity to have their house renovated by Channel 7’s successful House Rules High Stakes team.
This home renovation is a life-changing “transformation of the year” for the mother and son duo. As the episode aired around Australia and Lenore and Bradley were welcomed to their new home, a sense of glee was felt among the Apollo Kitchens team.
“Mum and my stepfather Michael have always sacrificed so much for us kids so I’m really happy to be able to do this with her so she and Michael can hopefully get the home they deserve,” Bradley told the other teams.
Apollo Kitchens were delighted to be the official joinery and cabinet manufacturers for this highly anticipated, extremely emotional and well-deserved project, that Lenore called “the house of our dreams.”
Project brief
Lenore and Bradley’s stepfather Michael had been stuck at their current abode in Greystanes, NSW for years, unable to give it the love it so desperately needed. The brief for their renovation entailed:
A refreshed Hamptons home
Open up with light and love
Give us the blues
Deliver elegance with contemporary, clean and crisp wet areas
A nursery fit for a Prince
To achieve the Hamptons style, we incorporated natural stone finishes with soft whites and intricate detail in the overall design.
The designs were guided by the House Rules contestants and Apollo Kitchens helped bring dream home to life. Naturally, in line with House Rules’ tight turnaround, Apollo Kitchens relied upon our Smart Factory manufacturing processes to complete the task.
Kitchen
Laith and George took on the challenge to renovate the kitchen. To achieve the Hamptons style in the kitchen, the boys carefully chose profiled doors and panelling. Polytec’s Hampton Oyster Grey and Oxford Matt finish were chosen for the kitchen island, with polished brass door handles.
The island was an important piece in the kitchen renovation as it worked as a servery into the dining room, and also created a separate zone for meal preparation. This worked to open the kitchen into the living room, a fantastic idea for people who like to show their culinary skills when entertaining guests.
The benchtops were made with Smartstone’s Bianco Onix, incorporating a 10mm shadow line to keep in line with the contemporary and clean Hamptons-style design brief.
Directly behind the kitchen island is the cleaning zone with a double bowl undermount sink and integrated dishwasher. With a sizeable window above the sink, the kitchen required additional storage space in other areas and this is where the kitchen island was once again essential.
The storage zone was installed to the right side of the kitchen sink, and included the fridge and walk-in pantry.
Walk-in Pantry
Tasmanian Twins Kimmy and Rhi were allocated the Walk-in Pantry. The sisters cleverly decided to maintain a consistent look by incorporating similar kitchen finishes in their walk-in pantry.
The doors and feature shelving finishes were Polytec’s Hampton Oyster Grey. The easy access open shelving was made with Polytec’s Oxford Matt again.
To keep the budget low and maintain a consistent Hamptons look, the twins selected a Polytec Carrara Matt for the benchtop.
Walk-in Robe
Kimmy and Rhi were the walk-in specialists for this home renovation. We expect the girls to be shoe-ins for the House Rules grand finale with their walk-in wardrobe design (pun intended).
The twins selected Polytec’s Oxford Venette with an open shark nose profile for draws and robes. The soft-close drawers were fitted with Hettich hardware.
Nursery
Brisbane couple Tamara and Rhys were allocated the nursey. Once again the joinery had a consistent look and feel with Kimmy and Rhi’s walk-in wardrobe. The couple selected Polytec Oxford Venette and Blossom White Woodmatt finishes.
The soft-close Hettich drawers were made with a shark nose profile instead of handles. This increases the safety in the nursery as it removes the need for exposed handles for children to grab or walk into. This is a nursery fit for a Prince and for a King as the cabinets have ample storage space for a mature wardrobe as Lenore’s grandson grows up.
Den
The dynamic tradie couple Kayne and Aimee were responsible for the den. The team decided to design this space with a breakaway style, having chosen a Polytec Perugian Walnut Woodmatt finish for the joinery.
This bespoke piece incorporated open shelves to display fine glassware and an integrated mini fridge for beverages. To the right of the piece is a built in bench seat. The cabinet was made the perfect height for resting a drink on the bar whilst sitting down. The seat is also functional with additional storage space underneath.
Laundry
Tanya and Dave were a delight to work with. Their opulent laundry design screams Hamptons. The couple selected Polytec Hampton Blossom White Matt profiled doors. The definitive benchtop was made with engineered stone, in Smarstone’s Athena.
The laundry, with its bright look, ample storage and marvellous design, means you can’t help but smile whilst doing the washing. Having three young children of their own, the Perth couple understood the importance of a well-designed laundry, and certainly delivered! The laundry definitely meets the brief of delivering elegance with contemporary, clean and crisp wet areas.
